PKI, as it is none, is the philanthropic arm of the Portsmouth-Suffolk (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. It provides educational and financial assistance to deserving high school students in the cities of Portsmouth and Suffolk through mentoring, tutoring, scholarships, field trips and career exploration. The corporation contributes to and actively participates in charitable fundraisers to include but not limited to Woodrow Wilson High School Special Needs Prom, St. Jude Hospital, Relay for Life, Social Services Holiday Baskets, and P/S Alumni Achievement and Awards Banquet. It is housed at 4300 Portsmouth Boulevard at the corner of Victory Blvd and California Street in Portsmouth.

 

From its inception, and for the next six years, Brother Diggs served as the grand polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Through his leadership and indefatigable application, augmented by the efforts of Byron K. Armstrong and John M. Lee, who comprised the remainder of the original Grand Board of Directors, the infant fraternity was guided through the most perilous years of its life. Accordingly, much of the credit for the organization’s survival through this period is shared by these three men.
